Why You Really Have To Be Prepared To Do A Fox Business Interview

For the record...the producer at FoxBusiness.com who set this up yesterday up thought it was a "very solid interview" and "great" television.  My opinion is a little different.  Fair and balanced?  I'll let you decide.

Is it that surprising?

Is an illogical mean-spirited attack from a Fox* anchor that surprising?

I'm sorry, that sounds mean itself. It sucks that she got mean at the end.

Unbelievable

Stan, amazing job keeping your cool and continuing to make rational points and counter arguments in the face of bizarre comments from the Fox business anchors. Can such a show/network have any credibility with business, Wall Street or investors after making such glaringly stupid fiscal and economic comments?

It's "your" government Stan!

"Go ahead..." "Your

"Go ahead..." "Your government..." "whoever you drummed up there"= ridiculous!

I don't know whether to tell you never to interview with them again or to interview with them as much as you can. Either way you'll be slandered but at least with the latter you'll inject some actual truth into FOX.

hmmm...

this was a bizarre interview, but I'm not sure the anchor said anything incorrect or stupid (well, that might be a stretch). It didn't seem like she understood the issue at all - and wasn't therefore able to ask any questions that were relevant.

For instance, she said why didn't they do more tax cuts this time around. But they did do more tax cuts. Almost 1/3 of the ARRA is more tax cuts.

you did great stan. it's a wonder this folks are able to be on t.v.

Partisan hack

Can't people talk about economic issues without bringing up political parties?

Wow. Just... wow.

As others said, great job in difficult circumstances. I barely watch cable news and now I remember why.

thx fr teh lulz

Stan, I just listened to the podcast of your interview with Tom Keene at Bloomberg Radio. You came across as very knowledgeable, so I decided to check out the website.

That clip was pretty funny, especially the female who didn't appear to know anything other than talking points. I guess the "you" and "your government" stuff is about pandering to Palin fans -- seems to go with Palin's rhetoric about "the real America."

Cheers.

I had to stop the clip when

I had to stop the clip when that lady starting ranting about the "current 55 trillion dollar deficit in Medicare" or whatever.

This is why I don't watch FOX

Stan, you did a good job of explaining why deficit spending is required to pull us out of a recession. Nobody likes it, but the alternative would have been to sink into Great Depression 2.0.

Thanks for your service to your country.

Thanks for taking one for the team

Fair and Balanced?

Not fair - for you to have brains and the interviewer to be debating you without any of her own.

Balanced - Stan, you provided the balance, so thanks for taking one for the team.

How you kept from exploding or laughing and walking away is beyond me. Well done!

Your facts are obscuring her talking points

That was eight minutes of someone editorializing and you trying to reason with them. Fox is a waste of time, unless you're doing a sociological experiment.

Can the Right not do math?

Point 1 - Where did she learn to do math? As you said in the Bloomberg podcast, not doing anything = Hoover reaction to the problem.

Point 2 - Should fiscal policy be driven by the "hordes of angry people emailing the show" (Paraphrase) ?

"If fifty million people say a foolish thing, it is still a foolish thing." - Anatole France

Where's the Beef?

I fail to see why Stan thinks he has a legitimate gripe about how he was treated. I don't see anything impolite on the part of the interviewers.

By the standards of television this was a pretty good exchange of opinion. It's hardly settled fact that fiscal stimulus can work to moderate a recession. And, certainly the woman was correct that, with regards to unemployment, this one hasn't delivered as advertised by Bernstein and Romer.
