National Journal Says Boehner's Reelection As Speaker Could Be In Doubt
I hate to say I told you so, but...
I predicted as far back as May (here, here and especially here) that House Speaker John Boehner's reelection as speaker could be in trouble if it looked to the tea party wing of the Republican Party that he was capitulating to the White House on taxes during the fiscal cliff negotiations.
I was called delusional (or worse) by some for saying that.
But...as this story by Billy House from today's National Journal says, there is, in fact, an effort underway by some GOP conservatives to make Boehner aware that his speakership is not, in fact, assured.
It also explains that stopping Boehner from being speaker is actually easier than I thought.
To be sure, the effort is a long-shot, still at it's earliest stages and more likely to be aimed at getting Boehner to back down on taxes than actually to defeat him. Nevertheless, the fact that a movement like this has now gone public indicates that the concept is not as delusional as some said it was when I first suggested it.
